MAD Countdown - Favourite Arc
The bond between parent and child.
"I don’t know why I keep shouting at them."
"Because every time you see them happy you remember how sad they’re going to be, and it breaks your heart. Because what’s the point in them being happy now, if they’re going to be sad later? The answer is, of course, because they are going to be sad later."
If there’s one thing, one thing at all that I’ve taken from the episodes of Doctor Who that Moffat has written and those he has overseen, it’s that no matter what, no matter when or where you are there will always be families who love each other and that love is powerful. Our daily lives aren’t about fighting aliens or running through time. Our challenges are smaller but they’re no less important. They’re grieving a loss. They’re learning to communicate, feeling out the boundaries, growing and changing together. We’ve seen parents overcome the greatest obstacles to protect and save their children. We’ve seen children inspired to push on and reach for the stars by their parents. These are relationships we can all relate to. We know how it feels to love someone deeply and truly and with such ferocity that it hurts. We’ve seen parents who are unsure, afraid, distant. We’ve seen them make mistakes. But in the end they’re always there. They come through when their children need them the most. Love is the driving force of the universe and there are few kinds of love as great as the love between parent and child.
